The greatest trip memories? Can you believe I wrote a fascinating account and I didn't save it? Suffice to say I am pissed because I now have to try and recapture my thoughts. Here we go ...
- Waiting anxiously on the dock for everyone to arrive and for our adventure to begin.
- Watching with horror as a large bottle of red wine, no less, was confiscated before the ship even set sail.
- Seeing Crystal for the first time in twenty years. I would have recognized her anywhere. She looks exactly the same.
- Being asked time and time again who was older, me or Treva. My response remains the same, "Treva, because she's not here."
- Listening with open-mouthed awe as Alonda and Wanda described their respective triathalon and marathon accomplishments. Wow - they are some fit women!
- Hearing how our Sands dispatched with a woman who has been a thorn in her side since eighth grade.
- Finding a sympathetic ear in Shellie P who is also on an intense food intake program - please pass the dessert.
- Learning about Lisa's writing accomplishments. Please don't forget to send me the link.
- Understanding the commitment and sacrifices Darcia has had to make as her son looks set to become a professional athlete when he gets older.
- Lois telling me don't make her have to move after I told her that she and I need to talk after the cruise.
- Watching Shelly (Wilkie) in the Straw Market hunt unrelentingly for the matching wallet to her recently acquired chocolate 'Coach' bag. My kind of shopper.
- Seeing my line sisters cut it up on the dance floor. Who said women in their late 30s and early 40s don't still have it.
- ... and no, those drinks in those cute little red glasses are not free. In fact they are $5.95 - you are kidding me, right?
- Being dragged out of bed by Wanda amid threats of torture and the like, to visit Shelly and Dar's room for what was left of the wine that wasn't seen by the ship authorities.
- Watching the DZ, circa 1988, step show at Bloomfield (?). Where did you all get those outfits and let's not even mention the shoes. Please someone find the tape of our Probate. Also Wanda and Alonda, please get copies of those blackmail-making pictures you have of us.
- Finally getting to Fish Fry in Nassau and having one of the best meals of the trip. Who has the pictures of us with the chef and the lady who served us? Conch salad, anyone?
- Singing the Sweetheart song. There wasn't a dry tear afterwards. We all vowed to stay in touch and do something in two years time in NJ.
- Saying tearful good byes to my Sands and he new friends I had made after knowing you all for 20 years.
- Spending quality time getting to know strong, beautiful, hardworking Delta women ... priceless.

I have some good memories from trip. The things I remember most are the conversations I had with Shelly Thomas. I was in such awe to hear her speak so boldly about the ministry she has started in her church. Being able to have major impact on our young ladies lives is so needed in our society today. I am so grateful to know we have women like Shelly willing to give 100% percent of herself not just teaching but living Christ like. I am strong believer in what we give is what will be produced. When we pour the teaching of GOD into ones life we see the fruits of our labor. I have been asked the question…what legacy do I want to leave behind. How will people remember me? This is a question we must all ask ourselves.

Second thing I remember most is Crystal. I think our lives have taken somewhat similar paths. Having the love and devotion to take on the responsibility for another person…a female child in particular is such a selfless act.
Crystal I applaud and thank you for being the ultimate women of the century. I know very well what it takes to care, love, mentor and nurture a child that is not you’re own. There a few people in this world that would even consider doing such a thing. Raising a child, watching her grow up before your very eyes and sending her into the world is one of the greatest experience God has blessed me with. Like you, I don’t take that for granted. You and I have yet to see the greatness these two women will bring to the world. Thank you for being the women you are.

The third memory is the conversation we had regarding the plight of young men in our society of today. Alonda initiated the dialog and it was very much candied and provoking. What I walked away with is that our society has to recognize this as an issue. The issues/problems are beyond economic and social boundaries. As a black community we have to work harder and closer ….truly this is time when “each one teach one”. As a sisterhood we can solve all the problems and ills of the world but take a stand as an individual to make a difference. I like what Alonda, Shellie and Lois had to say…yes ladies it does start with each of us. We can make a change if we are sincere in making a difference for the right reason. Often times, as it was so well stated we want to do things because it brings notoriety or visibility to us. We must forget ourselves and make a difference based on the fact we are investing in our future. Let’s move beyond our selves, children or family and help your neighbor sons and daughters….WHY….just because that young man and lady is your future.
